Released in 2005, Death Tunnel follows five college girls who are invited to a "scavenger hunt" at the notorious . Each girl is assigned to a different floor of the massive, decaying hospital. What they don't realize is that they are being used as pawns in a dark ritual, and the spirits of the thousands who died there are still very much present.

The girls are locked in and separated, forced to navigate the labyrinth of decaying corridors while being tormented by vengeful spirits. As the night progresses, they uncover the dark secrets of their own pasts and the terrifying history of the asylum.

The reason Death Tunnel has even a modicum of staying power is entirely due to its setting. The film was shot at the real Waverly Hills Sanatorium. Originally opened in 1910 as a two-story wooden hospital for 40-50 tuberculosis patients, the massive, Gothic Revival-style building that stands today was constructed between 1924 and 1926.

⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ (3/5) — A decent watch for fans of haunted asylum movies, but not a classic.

After the sanatorium closed in 1961, the building sat abandoned for decades, becoming a magnet for urban explorers and paranormal investigators. Countless stories of ghost sightings, shadow figures, disembodied screams, and slamming doors have emerged from the derelict structure, cementing its reputation as one of the most haunted locations on Earth. This grim history and chilling atmosphere are the film's greatest asset.

Sameer confesses a buried truth: as a child, he once hid while another boy — Amit — was punished by the Warden. Amit never returned. The group’s dynamic fractures; Meera grows increasingly uneasy as the locket thrums against her chest, reacting to something below.

As for the rating, Death Tunnel received an MPAA rating of 'R' for its horror violence/gore, language, and some drug content. This rating comes as no surprise, given the film's gruesome subject matter and the creative freedom it afforded the director to utilize blood and gore effects. In the UK, it received an '18' rating for similar reasons.
