When a Canon printer reaches a certain number of prints, the waste ink pad becomes saturated. Instead of needing new hardware, you can use the Service Tool to tell the printer's firmware that the pad has been replaced.
– For some Canon models, there are legitimate user-level maintenance tools (e.g., Service Tool Unlocker is not recommended; instead look for WIC Reset Utility for waste ink – though that also has risks). But these are not Canon’s v5204.
Turn the printer back on normally. The error message should be cleared, and the printer should function normally again.
