Neve 1272 Schematic

When you look at the schematic, note the capacitor and resistor between the output and the input of the amp. That network controls the high-frequency roll-off. As you turn up the gain, the circuit introduces subtle low-pass filtering. That is why Neves sound "smooth" on transients like snare drums and vocals.

A 1073 has a complex input stage designed for tiny microphone signals. A 1272 (as a line amp) bypasses this for higher-level signals. Neve 1272 Schematic

The input and output sections of the 1272 schematic are equally critical to its sonic character. The input utilizes the Marinair LO1166 (or later St. Ives) transformer, which balances the signal and provides initial voltage gain. The output stage features the massive LO1166 gapped transformer, driven by a 2N3055 power transistor. This combination of iron and Class A electronics creates the "weight" and "harmonic saturation" associated with Neve gear. When the output transformer is driven hard, it introduces subtle low-frequency distortion and a smoothing of transients that engineers often describe as "musical" or "warm." When you look at the schematic, note the

At the far right of the schematic, you will find the (typically a Carnhill 10468 or LO1166 ). That is why Neves sound "smooth" on transients

A stock Neve 1272 only contains BA283 preamplifier stage alongside its output stage. Because of this structural limitation, a stock 1272 cannot cleanly achieve 80dB of gain. Without modification, pushing a single BA283 stage past 45dB–50dB causes the circuit to become unstable, noisy, and frequency-deficient. Detailed Circuit Analysis: The BA283 Card

Converts balanced signals to unbalanced for the preamp stage. For mic use, it is often rewired from its standard line impedance.

Unfortunately I don’t have Windows and prefer web based systems so I couldn’t use this tool but I’m a huge fan of BeatLottery system! Thanks for introducing me to this great system!
