The central conflict of the series revolves around the binary opposition of good and evil. The woodlanders (mice, squirrels, otters, moles, and hares) are the custodians of peace. They are governed by the Code of the Warrior, often reluctant fighters who take up arms only to defend the helpless. In contrast, the vermin (rats, weasels, stoats, ferrets, and foxes) are the agents of chaos.

The Redwall series is a high-fantasy saga centered around the anthropomorphic animals living in and around Redwall Abbey in the mythical Mossflower Wood. Unlike many fantasy series that follow a single hero, Jacques designed Redwall to be a tapestry of stories, with each book focusing on different heroes from different generations of abbey inhabitants.

The Redwall series does not need to be read in strict chronological order, as Jacques frequently wrote prequels and standalone historical tales spanning centuries of Mossflower history. However, having the complete digital bundle allows you to choose between publication order or chronological order.
