While streaming is growing, traditional television remains a staple for the mass market, particularly outside of Jakarta. The primary format is the "Sinetron" (soap opera).
While traditional television still holds ground in rural areas, digital platforms dominate the daily lives of Indonesian millennials and Gen Z.
Let’s be honest: the old-school sinetrons (soap operas) were cheesy. But the new wave? Dark, fast-paced, and addictive.
For decades, Indonesian entertainment was synonymous with television, which played a critical role in shaping national identity and societal values. Iconic genres like dangdut music—once considered the music of the "underclass"—eventually achieved mainstream legitimacy on television, symbolizing the "music of the people". However, the late 1990s marked a turning point; the abolition of state censorship in 1998 sparked an explosion in commercial media, leading to a surge in reality TV, supernatural dramas, and talent quests. Great set of pictures Matthew. I love the colour ones in particular but all are excellent. You’ve really nailed the lighting and composition.
Thanks Jezza, yes I plan to try to use some colour film on the next visit to capture more colour images but sometimes black and white just suits the situation better. Many thanks!

You do good work. I personally like the interaction between a rangefinder camera and a live model moreso than a DSLR type camera, which somehow is between us. Of course, the chat between you and the model makes the image come alive. The one thing no one sees is the interaction. Carry on.
Thanks Tom, yes agree RF cameras block the face less for interactions. Agree it’s the chat that makes shoots a success or not. Cheers!
