While the text explicitly curses Canaan (ancestor of the Canaanites), not Ham or all Africans, subsequent Jewish, Christian, and Islamic interpreters expanded the curse’s scope. The paper concludes that the “Curse of Canaan” has no legitimate basis for racial theory and is a product of eisegesis.
