Lanbench ~upd~ Jun 2026
In this paper, we presented LANBench, a network benchmarking tool designed to evaluate the performance of LANs. The tool provides features to measure the throughput, latency, and packet loss of the network, and supports both TCP and UDP protocols. Our experimental results demonstrate the accuracy and reliability of LANBench in measuring the performance of LANs. We believe that LANBench is a useful tool for network administrators and researchers to evaluate the performance of their network infrastructure.
Unlike speed tests that measure internet bandwidth, LANBench focuses exclusively on local network performance. This distinction is crucial because many factors—from cable quality to router configuration—can impact internal network speeds even when your internet connection performs well. Whether you are a network administrator optimizing a corporate infrastructure or a home user diagnosing slow file transfers between PCs, LANBench provides the numerical data needed to identify bottlenecks. LANBench is an invaluable tool for anyone looking to get a clear, unbiased picture of their network performance. Its simplicity makes it accessible to beginners, while its accuracy provides sufficient data for experienced technicians. By understanding the raw speed of your local infrastructure, you can confidently troubleshoot, optimize, and maximize your network potential. What equipment are you using (router model, cables)? In this paper, we presented LANBench, a network
Using LANBench is straightforward, usually involving two machines (Machine A and Machine B). Download the LANBench utility. We believe that LANBench is a useful tool
LANBench operates on a simple client-server architecture. To use it, you run the executable file on two separate machines connected to the same network. One machine is configured as the server, listening for incoming connections, while the other acts as the client, actively sending and receiving test packets. Because it runs entirely within the system's random-access memory (RAM), it completely eliminates storage drive bottlenecks, providing a pure measurement of your physical network infrastructure.
