When Ubisoft launched Assassin’s Creed Unity on November 11, 2014, it was protected by layers of DRM, including mandatory Uplay (now Ubisoft Connect) integration. Shortly after, the infamous pirate release groups, and CODEX (the latter had become known for cracking tough protections like Uplay and Denuvo), entered the fray.
