Growing up in Yokohama, Kamiya's early life was marked by upheaval after his father’s furniture business closed and his parents divorced, leading him to be raised by his mother alongside his brother. This period of change forced him to move between several schools, from Yokohama to Tokyo. It was during his time at Aioi Elementary School in Tokyo that he was inspired to pursue drama by the presence of actor Shoichi Ozawa, an older student at the school. In junior high, a friend, impressed by his voice, invited him to join the drama club, setting him on the path that would define his life. After graduating from Tokyo Metropolitan Shiba Commercial High School, he joined the amateur theater company Kanza in Yokohama, honing his craft before entering the professional world.
The narrative is set in Neo-Tokyo, a post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk metropolis built after a mysterious explosion destroyed the original city. It follows Kaneda, a charismatic leader of a delinquent motorcycle gang, and his best friend Tetsuo.
