"Perseus" (subtitled A Hero’s Quest in the Heavens ) is one of Yagisawa's most popular works, a symphonic poem commissioned in December 2005 for the Kyoto Prefectural Momoyama Senior High School Wind Band. The band director and students cherished the tradition of adding lyrics to the music they performed, so Yagisawa was asked to create a piece that would make the most of this communal, singing tradition.
